Intent

Our aim at JMA is to ensure that all students leave with a high-quality music education that engages, inspires and develops their understanding and appreciation of Music. As students progress they will increase their self-confidence and creativity through a diverse range of curriculum topics. We will motivate and encourage students to improve their skills, enhance their knowledge of Music and provide a platform for them to be expressive and create their own work.

Music students at JMA will:

• Understand the key elements of Music and appropriate musical notations
• Develop keyboard skills and will have the opportunity to learn other instruments
• Perform on a variety of instruments and sing, both individually and as part of a group
• Learn to compose Music in a variety of styles
• Listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of different historical periods, genres, styles and traditions
• Learn how to appraise their work and the work of others
