John Madejski Academy

Dance & Drama

Intent:

Through studying Dance & Drama at JMA students will explore a range of topics and stimuli that will inspire and provide a wider understanding of the world around them. They will experience the process of creating, developing, rehearsing, and performing their own work. Students will be motivated to be reflective of their work and respond to feedback to improve. We want students to be ambitious and challenge themselves to be creative, take risks and be open to new ideas.

In Year 7 students will build the foundation knowledge and skills of Dance and Drama, in Year 8 students will learn more specialist skills and gain a wider understanding of both subjects, in Year 9 students will prepare for progression through studying set plays and dance works; they will be required to utilise their knowledge from Year 7 and 8 in a considered and independent way. Throughout the three years ideas and themes that link to other subjects such as English, Music and RSHE will be explored. At KS4 students build a deeper understanding through analysing set works, reviewing live theatre, devising their own work and performing set texts.
