Transition
Welcome from Mr Hulse – Head of Year 7 and Transition Lead
I would like to extend a warm welcome to John Madejski Academy. At JMA we aim to provide the highest standard of education for all of our students so that every student achieves their full potential. Our highest priority is teaching and learning and through this we have created an achievement-oriented culture. We are proud to continue to build a school community where students, parents, staff and governors work together in partnership to forge a creative and healthy environment for learning and personal development.
We want all our students to succeed through our core values of ‘hard-work, determination, empathy, integrity and positivity’. As such, we aim to build on, and recognise, every child’s strengths; to encourage our students to be well-disciplined, polite, considerate, well-motivated and compassionate students. We are very proud of the ambitious, skilled and confident students who leave us and look forward to supporting your child during the next phase of their learning journey with us.
This area of our website will be updated regularly with further details about the transition process, a copy of the welcome pack and a copy of all letters that we will send to parents.
Transition aims:
- To reassure Year 6 students about their transition to JMA and to prepare them for academy life and JMA expectations.
- To support parents and provide them with all the information they need throughout the transition process.
- To gather relevant information from all our feeder primary schools about each student joining JMA in September
Summer work
Students were given paper copies of Maths, English and Science transition work to complete before September. This should be handed in to their teachers in the first week back. Students should not worry about completing this work, it is about trying their best.

JMA Sports Academy
This year we have developed our Academy Sports Programme to include Year 7 to 11 students. This includes weekly coaching sessions and a pathway to our Sixth Form Sports Academy for boys and girls basketball and football. Our Sixth Form Sports Academy play against some of the top teams in the country, such as Chelsea and Manchester City. The Sports Academy has also helped many of our students achieve sport scholarships for universities in England and America.
