John Madejski Academy

Dress Code

The sixth form dress code requires students to be smart, well presented and business like. Sixth Form students represent the Academy as a whole and act as role models. The Sixth Form dress code seeks to prepare students for the business environment, and consequently replicates its ethos and expectations. All students will be expected to wear business attire or course uniform if part of the performance sport provision

Dress code should reflect the business-like ethos of the Sixth Form. Students should wear:

  • Smart shirt and tie or blouse
  • Formal smart trousers or skirt (of an appropriate length)
  • Smart shoes or boots (no trainers

Students may choose to wear:

  • Smart business dresses
  • Knitted cardigans or jumpers over their shirt or blouse
  • Suit jacket or blazer

The following items are NOT allowed:

  • Denim, either jeans or jackets
  • Vest tops without a covering (cardigan or buttoned shirt)
  • T-shirts or Polo shirts
  • Trainers, fashion boots, flip-flops, trainers, canvas-topped shoes or pumps
  • Tight lycra skirts or Leggings
  • Hooded tops
  • Cargo or combat trousers, including chino-type materials.

Footwear should be appropriate to the lesson. For example: sports performance students will be permitted to wear running trainers when in full kit. Sliders are not permitted. Jewellery should be discreet and tasteful. A small nose stud will be allowed, but all other facial piercings should be removed or covered over. Any tattoos should be discreet and covered with appropriate clothing. Sports performance students will be required to dress in their full Reading FC or Reading Rockets tracksuit. Students should refrain from any deviation from this. If not in club tracksuit, students must wear business attire. If you have not yet received details on purchasing sports kit please contact the sports lead.

The final decision regarding student attire rests with the Sixth Form Leadership Team. Students that do not adhere to the dress code will be asked to return home and change or remain in the Sixth Form Office. If you are unsure if you are able to wear specific items, please check with your tutor.
