Microsoft DigiGirlz event

In December eight Year 8 girls attended Microsoft’s DigiGirlz event. The aim of the day was to get girls excited and informed about what it’s like to work in the Tech sector; giving them hands-on experience and helping them to meet interesting, inspiring employees from across Microsoft.

On arrival the girls were treated to a breakfast and a new t-shirt followed by a welcome from the UK CEO. They warmed up with a game of ‘just dance’ before heading off for their first task; programming a Microbit. Before lunch the girls heard from a number of female employees at Microsoft about their career journey and had the opportunity to ask them questions. During the afternoon session, the girls in groups were challenged to use the programming skills they had learnt in the morning, to design and build a safer traffic system for the roads in front of the Academy. Both groups came up with fantastic designs to keep the students of JMA safe while crossing the road. They all had fun learning new tech skills.
